Solar Energy Requirements

To determine the size of solar systems for your house there are a few things we have to evaluate, first of all we have to review your electrical bills, we will analyze your power consumption, the rate and the money you pay.

Then you would have to determine the available roof space and its orientations and will determine if your roof is feasible for solar installations. The size of solar systems for a typical house, ranges from three thousand to six thousand watts of systems and typically the space required is about two hundred to four hundred square feet of space.

Solar Energy Reliability

There’s a reason why the space program chose to use solar panels as a means to produce electricity since the Vanguard I in 1958 that’s because they’re reliable and it requires next to zero maintenance.

This is evidence in the fact that manufacturers place a twenty-five year production warranty on the system. They’re very confident in the panel’s ability to produce electricity and for them to withstand the test of time. The second layer of warranty on the panels that you have on this investment is the installers’ hour ten year warranty that includes all of the work that we do on your roof with the penetrations, running conduit, all the racking, the electric work, all of that is guaranteed for ten years. If for some reason something were to happen to our company the manufacturer warranty would step in and cover that ten year warranty and cover all of that. So this being a long term investment is a very stable investment, it’s a very reliable investment.

Japan Filling the Nuclear Void

Japan Filling the Nuclear Void

By John Hoffman

Japan has abandoned the notion that it will obtain half of its energy from nuclear power. The decision has come as a result of the epic nuclear power plant crisis following the devastating earthquakes. Instead, Japan has made it clear it would promote renewable energy which is a far cry from before the nuclear crisis, where nuclear power plants supplied almost 30 percent of the country’s electricity, with plans to increase the number to 50 percent. Leaking radiation continues to be a problem in throughout Japan, making the need for renewable energy initiatives even greater. This sentiment is consistent with policy developments in the US and China as well. This disaster will have broader implications on the hot debate over how to balance renewable, nuclear and conventional sources of energy.

Specifically what does this mean for the US Solar market? In the near term, analyst see some supply disruptions, potentially negatively impacting fundamentals across the solar supply chain. The entire Japanese economy will be impacted for a while, which will cause some minor shipment and short-term pricing issues for PV components here in the US. Even though it weakens the near term supply/demand outlook the longer term policy outlook for the renewable solar energy sector will likely improve. Elevated by global demand, particularly in Asia and North America, the US Solar market will likely be in for an uptick. This could be a timely industry wide boost just as the cash rebate programs are unwinding. However there is no real upside to an event as devastating as what happened in Japan last month but the residual affect will be a transfer of power (literally) from nuclear to wind and solar.

Solar Monitoring Systems

A lot of people wonder what happens after they have their solar system set up and up and running and after the city does their check and inspection and everything.

Basically you should have a monitoring system installed and it’s connected to your computer and monitor so you can monitor your solar system and you can see how much kilowatt hour it is generating per month and per day. So the entire purpose of your solar monitoring system is so you would understand how much kilowatt hour you’re solar is generating per day and per month, this is to ensure you that your solar system will be producing at its peak kilowatt hour during certain time of the season and certain time of the day. So after your solar is up and running, at if any time you have questions you can always call SunGreen Systems and your sales rep will be there to help you, to answer all of your questions.

Solar Energy Warranties

There’s a reason why virtually every space program since Vanguard I in 1958 has utilized solar PV technology. The main reason is being that it’s a proven technology and that it’s reliable, a couple of the main reasons for that is with solar PV there’s no moving parts and there’s no complicated electronics and as a result there’s very little maintenance.

As you could imagine in space maintenance is a big issue. This reliability is evidence in the fact that all the manufacturers that we work with and the products that we offer come with a twenty-five year production warranty, this is important with the space programs, they can’t have maintenance while there in space it could be very difficult and very expensive. Beyond the production warranty, SunGreen systems also offers a ten year warranty on all of our systems that we install this includes, this cover includes all of the racking, all of the penetrations, the electric connections and all of the balance of the system that comes along with the installation process. The result being is that the home owners and business owners are like are left with the system that is clean and reliable and will produce electricity for at least forty to fifty years with no maintenance.

The Hybrid is Just a Start: How to Truly Drive Green

As passionate promoters of green energy who also spend a lot of time in our cars, we’re excited to see all the electric cars and plug-in hybrids coming down the road. The problem: the electricity they use primarily comes from fossil fuel-burning power plants. Of course, where there are problems, we see opportunities…

1. Solar business carports: Many parking lots cover acres. The sun hits all that dark asphalt and contributes to urban heat. The sunlight also bakes cars, fading paintjobs and degrading dashboards. The solution: solar-powered carports provide shade while charging electric cars, powering streetlamps and pleasing employees, customers and guests.

2. Solar apartment buildings: Electric cars deliver the greatest value in cities, where drivers face a lot of stop-and-go commutes. The problem: many urbanites live in apartments that don’t offer outlets for electric cars, and whose owners don’t want to foot the utility bill. There is a solution: apartment roofs are ideal for solar panels, which provide electricity while enhancing property values and attracting (and retaining) socially responsible, green-minded tenants.

3. Solar residential garages: Many homeowners care about their communities and drive green vehicles to reduce emissions. These forward thinking homeowners can now make their garages as green as their cars by installing solar-powered car chargers.

The world’s auto makers have started down the road to a fossil fuel-free future; with solar panels, we can help complete the journey.

Until next time, stay sunny!

Proof: Going Green Increases Business Property Values

Want to boost the value of your property? According to a 2009 study at U.C. Berkeley, the key is to go green, such as with customized solar energy systems. (Source: Doing Well By Doing Good? Green Office Buildings by Eichholtz, Kok & Quigley)

Sales prices of green office buildings are approximately 16% higher than the price of equivalent non-green buildings. The study also found that green buildings command rents 3-6% higher than similar non-green buildings.

Whether you’ll achieve the same results depends on a number of factors, such as the strength of your local real estate market and the extent to which your building meets green qualifications. But in general, many buyers and renters are seeking green options, not only to keep their energy costs under control, but for the cachet of being in an environmentally responsible building. In the long term, being green might also boost the value of your entire business.

The bottom line: Don’t think of green technology as an expense but as an investment. Major corporations and even state, federal and local governments are seeing green as an investment (see “Current Events” below). What about you?

Until next time, stay sunny!
