We often get ask when people here that we’re a solar business, “Oh are you heating water like, to wash my dishes and my clothes, or what are you doing?’’.

Many people, who are not too familiar with PV solar industry, first think in terms of water because for about 30 years, 40 years we’ve had solar thermal heating systems for swimming pools and household uses. SunGreen Systems is a PV Photovoltaic solar producer, we produce electricity. And I’ll tell you why we focus on electricity. In general, in Southern California water is heated with natural gas, we have hot water heaters, even swimming pools; they tend to be heated with natural gas. Natural gas prices are relatively inexpensive, in California. So when somebody looks at an energy bill in the winter time say, you may have a high gas bill but most of that is probably going to heat your home or heat your business, very little of it is for the water. Hot water heaters are very, very efficient, they’ll keep the water hot for days their beautifully insulated now, and it just does not take that much energy to heat water.

Here at SunGreen Systems we want to make the biggest impact we can on our customers energy costs. That clearly is for electricity, there is no other way around it you have to buy it from your utility, we have so many television sets and businesses, we have equipment inside businesses and have of course air conditioning. Particularly as we get away from the coast, air conditioning for many businesses and homes is the largest consumer of electricity. So, with limited roof space or space for solar, we always recommend electricity lets go after where we can make the biggest impact which is to drive down electric cost. So that’s why we have chosen to focus on photovoltaic to produce electricity for our customers.
